NEW SUPER MARIO BROS WII REVIEW

New Super Mario Bros Wii is a very addictive game. Like usual, Mario goes to Peach's party, Bowser takes Peach, Mario beats up Bowser, Peach doesn't do anything special to Mario, just about the same thing BUT, there's several tweaks to the game. Along with Mario & Luigi are two new players: Yellow Toad and Blue Toad.

GAMEPLAY >20/20<

The game may have the same controls of an average Mario side-scroller, but the ability to fight along side three other players in story mode is fantastic, and original. Although having four players playing at the same time is very fun and social, it is also incredibly difficult and chaotic, it's almost a completely different game. half the time when I play with my brothers, we end up throwing eachother off cliffs, and and stealing each others power-ups. The boss fights are very intense because they are designed for the multiplayer, creating a little unexpected surprise in some cases, most of the bossfights are rather easy, but occasionally frustrating (world 4). The general gameplay is rather difficult, but it mostly depends on the level, and the amount of players.

STORY>5/20<

Mario, Luigi, Yellow Toad & Blue Toad, an adventure through 8 worlds. Each world has it's own theme, and each world has a castle a fort, and several levels, all of them unique. The actual plot, is basically non-existent, but if you wanted a game with plot you wouldn't be playing a side-scroller would you? I basically described the plot at the beginning; all you do is chase the Bowser gang around for a while, and eventually you catch him and rescue peach...again.

GRAPHICS & SOUND >13/20<

The graphics weren't that great compared to Xbox or PS3, but for a wii sidescroller, they were great. I usually dont really care much for graphics, but I found them fitting for this game. The sound effects are rather normal for Mario, very Mario-ish, and most of the music was awesome. The one thing I did't like about the music, was the underwater levels. The underwater levels have very slow moving music that isn't very exciting or catchy compared to the other background music. The only problem with that, is that they could've easily used the incredibly popular, original underwater theme.

PLAYTIME & REPLAY VALUE >20/20<

1-1 to Bowser's Castle takes up a lot of time for the average gamer, and it has a good number of hours in. Also theres still all the star coins to find everywhere, which will also take up quite a fair bit of time. Personally, I find the game very fun to replay, but it's not really a game to restart, it's more of a "go to the great levels and avoid the not so great ones" kinda thing. Also the game is great if you have friends over, or to play by yourself. it's definetly very addicting, and very awesome.

OVERALL >20/20<

Personally, I think the game is next to perfect, and just what a Mario side scroller game should be. If you play the game for long enough, you will start geting used to pivoting in mid air, getting combos, and you will eventually be doing things comparable to the demo videos. Most of the levels are fun and chaotic, and the gameplay is great. I would strongly suggest you go get this game.

 THE BASHER CHALLENGE

1.   PENGUIN PWN BOWSER

Beat Bowser's final castle, while keeping the same penguin suit the entire way through. You know you're pro when you beat up a giant, spiky-shelled turtle while wearing a random penguin suit.

BELLY FLOP INTO BATTLE, LIKE A MAN.

2.   PENGUIN PWN EVERYTHING ELSE

Beat every level while wearing a penguin suit. You can get a new one, but every time you lose your penguin suit, you must restart the level with a new penguin suit.

ARE YOU UP FOR THE PENGUIN CARNAGE!?
